Zelda | Nintendo Moves on from Tears of the Kingdom
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed that there will be no DLC or expansions for “Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”.
Despite the game’s immense success, selling over 18 million copies in its initial two months, Nintendo feels they’ve fully explored this iteration of Hyrule. Aonuma expressed that they had accomplished all they intended with this version of the world. The game had already introduced a significant underground realm and sky islands.
When queried about the next steps for the franchise, Fujibayashi hinted at another reinvention of the Zelda series, while Aonuma confidently welcomed high expectations, seeing them not as obstacles but as motivation for the development team.
Starfield | Alanah Pearce Flies for 7 hours to Pluto, Finds JPEG
In “Starfield”, while the primary mode of space exploration leans heavily on fast travel, players can also opt for a manual journey, albeit with significant challenges.
As showcased by content creator Alanah Pearce, a manual flight to Pluto, which is relatively close in terms of the game’s vast scale, took approximately 7 hours. This prolonged journey highlights that the planets in Starfield, when viewed without fast travel, appear as distant illusions rather than solid entities. Pearce’s journey concluded with her phasing through Pluto, a testament to the fact that these are nothing more than just jpegs in a big skybox. What seem to be celestial bodies are more aesthetic constructs than tangible locations.
Notably, despite the technical limitations of such manual space voyages, Starfield has garnered immense popularity, with its early release attracting nearly a quarter of a million concurrent players on Steam.
Streaming | YouTube Ventures into Gaming with ‘Playables’ Feature
YouTube is taking a step into the gaming arena with its new “playables” feature. This experimental addition integrates games directly into the platform, allowing select users to play them on both desktop and mobile.
While some of these games, like Stack Bounce, were previously tested by employees on Google’s GameSnacks platform, it’s uncertain which other titles will join the lineup or how developers can participate.
This move follows Google’s previous, unsuccessful foray into the gaming world with Google Stadia.
That’s it for this week’s attempt at a roundup of big news in gaming for the last 7 days.
